Founded in 2014 by Edinburgh born designer Samantha McCoach, Le Kilt is a contemporary Scottish womenswear label rooted in craft and material. The brand began with McCoach's grandmother, kilt maker Lena, teaching her to make the first samples at the family dinner table, and today produces every piece in Scotland in collaboration with small scale British manufacturers.
The collection reinterprets the kilt and wider Scottish wardrobe through a modern lens, drawing on the interplay between Edinburgh's urban and rural landscapes, marled greys alongside woven tartans, raw alongside refined. Fabric and materials lead every decision, with an emphasis on natural fibres and traditional construction.
Designed as contemporary classics, the pieces are intended to form the foundations of a modern womenswear wardrobe: kilts, skirts, tailoring and knitwear that elevate Scottish heritage without resorting to stereotype.
